NEW YORK, November 8 – RIA Novosti. New York City Mayor Eric Adams called trash cans with lids a "revolutionary idea," citing a decline in rat numbers in the city.
"Our imperial trash cans are fighting back because the rats don't run this city, we do," he added.
This is how he parodied the title of the film from the Star Wars series, The Empire Strikes Back.
He attached a photo to the post, also stylized to resemble the universe of the space saga. One of the universe's characters, Jabba the Hutt, is a city rat. The "death star" is most likely the aforementioned "revolutionary" trash can with a lid. The image notes that the number of rat sightings in the city has been declining for nine months in a row.
Most homes and all businesses in the city are already required by government regulations to use trash cans with lids when taking their trash to the curb for collection.
